About Me: The Beckster

The Beckster

Pinned Image

Occupation: Writer for a leading Jewish institution

Dream destination (other than the holy land of course!)

Soaking up a sunset in Santorini, Greece (iPod in hand) and mingling with the locals in Dublin, Ireland (while watching a traditional Irish dance!)

Accessory: Gold Hoops. My Inner Gypsy’s fixation.

WHAT JEWEL I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ON MY CROWN:

Sapphire. (Potential suitors take note…)

MODEST MUSE: OLIVIA PALERMO OR KATE MIDDLETON?

Olivia Palermo hands down. The Duchess of Cambridge is bound by a set of fashion regulations. Olivia Palermo on the other hand? She can playfully mix feathers, prints, and edgy sandals whilst evading Queen Elizabeth’s “tut tuts” and grim head shakes. In other words, Olivia can have a little something called FUN when getting dressed, and her personal style often reflects that.

 FASHION NO-NO:

Hmm…a horrid posture. Boy, do I sound like the founder of a 1950's charm school! But hear me out. Although a "horrid posture" is technically not a fashion blunder, it can be culpable of making even a high-end design (such as a Valentino gown) appear in a despondent, droopy state. Valentino Shmalentino aside, imagine what it could do to my (not as meticulously tailored) Forever 21 dress.

(Confession: My own posture is not that stellar. It’s always a work in progress. I suggest walking around all day with a rolling pin behind your back like my mother often insists I do. But, as ever, I digress…)

HOBBIES:

Horseback riding, stargazing, a coffee or lunch date with friends, skimming through a rack of vintage at a local thrift shop, immersing myself in a GOOD novel, watching Old School TV shows and Nature documentaries, and busting some bumbling dance moves late at night.

IF I WERE QUEEN FOR A DAY I WOULD….
I would just spend the day in a cliché fashion: Sip Chardonnay and nibble on caviar while my butler says on an hourly basis "Your Majesty, the Chanel dress and shoes have arrived, would you like to try them on?" I will attempt to avoid Royal politics, scandal, and drama, while partaking in my leisurely activities. Or maybe I will take part in the drama…depending on what it is!

What an Invisible Crown means to me:

Although this may sound like a platitude, I believe that an Invisible Crown is self-confidence and a determination to live life to the fullest. It is the realization that in spite of the society I live in, its controversy, my own fear, my tendency to overthink, to oversleep, and to drink too much Joe, my day can still be, well, beautiful. I can still be a Jewish girl who values the significance of kindness and the emotional or spiritual incandescence it kindles. I can still inhale an infant’s scent, ride the rhythms of my favorite tune, or swipe on punchy lipstick. I can still straighten my shoulders, dust off the soot of negativity, and boogie like nobody’s business. In other words, I can still don my Invisible Crown.
